Boys win 1-0, Girls take 2-0 victory
When Hahnville hosted Dutchtown, who just happens to be the 7th-ranked team in the state, it seemed like the Tigers were in for a long night.
However, Hahnville went toe-to-toe with the Griffins before falling 2-0.
It was a hard-played game by both teams, and praise should be given to Tiger defensive captain Austin Fremen. Fremen and the rest of the defense allowed two goals in the first half, but then clamped down in the second to shutout Dutchtown.
The Tigers quickly rebounded from their loss to Dutchtown to beat rival Destrehan 1-0.
The first half of play was full of possession changes with the majority of the game being played in the middle of the field. The Tigers had a few good opportunities to score but Johnathan Schmaltz and Bryan Bennet just missed on their shots. The high spirit of play resulted in a number of fouls called on both teams and ultimately one yellow card issued against the Tigers.
The first half would come to the end scoreless.
In the second half, both teams picked up their level of play. The high pressure attack of the Tigers paid off when freshman Bailey Breaux got the ball to Bennet.
Bennet worked the ball down the line with some fine ball skills to get past Destrehan’s defender for a crossing shot on goal.
The ball deflected off of the Wildcat goalie into the box where Freshman Brennen Samaha was there to slam the ball into the back of the goal.
This single goal would be enough to take the win back to the West Bank. The Tigers are now 7-3 overall and 1-1 in district.
The Tigers next home game will be against district rival East St. John on Jan. 7. The boys kickoff at 7:30 p.m.
HHS Lady Tigers beat Destrehan 2-0
The Hahnville Lady Tigers defeated the Destrehan Lady Cats 2-0 at Destrehan on Friday night.
The Hahnville defense continued to show their strength by shutting out another opponent this season. The close physical match was tied at half 0-0. The second half continued to be close until Junior Brandi Fabre scored with about 7 minutes until the final whistle. After Hahnville took the lead 1-0, Junior Jessica St. Pierre used some fancy footwork to sneak a goal past the Lady Cat Goalkeeper a couple of minutes later. The Lady Tigers defense was led by middle defenders Marissa Aucoin and Jordan Laurent.
The Lady tigers are now 10-5-1 overall and 1-1 in district. The Lady Cats are 6-3 and 1-1 in district. The Lady Tigers will resume district play after the holidays. They will play a couple of non-district matches as well as travel to Covington for a tournament between Christmas and New Years.
