Hahnville senior gymnastics star Kamryn Ryan continues to make history.

Ryan, who hopes to earn state championship honors for the fourth consecutive year at the LHSAA state gymnastics championships later this school year, has committed to the University of Alabama, as result of Ryan becoming the first athlete from a St. Charles Parish school to be offered a gymnastics scholarship.

It’s little wonder she drew the attention of Tide coaches. Ryan’s championship medal collection stands at eight in three years, including two overall state championships and six individual event titles. She also has three second place finishes and a third place finish in individual events and was the all-around state runner-up as a sophomore.
She has competed at Level 8, the highest classification in the LHSAA, since her freshman season, and has established herself as one of the state’s elite gymnasts, and perhaps its very best.

Hahnville established its gymnastics program coinciding with Ryan’s arrival and has since grown enough to not only compete as a team at state, but to finish second in its division. Along with Ryan, Hahnville sophomore Katie Kunkel and freshman Emily Gooden each competed at level 8 and placed 10th and 15th overall in state, respectively, helping to lift Hahnville within four points of state champion Dutchtown last season.

During her freshman year, she took the field by storm, overcoming a field with numerous upperclassmen competitors to earn the state’s all-around girls gymnastics championship in Level 8.

She joins an Alabama program that stands as one of the country’s most storied. The Crimson Tide have won six national championships, 32 regional championships and nine conference championships. Alabama won back to back national crowns earlier this decade, in 2011 and 2012. Its 32 regional championships stand as an NCAA record. The team is led by fourth-year head coach Dana Duckworth, who succeeded Sarah Patterson following the 2014 season.
