Rushed for 1,253 yards during LSU career
Former Hahnville High School running back Alfred Blue is St. Charles Parish’s newest professional player after being drafted by the Houston Texans in the sixth round of the NFL draft.
The 6-foot-2, 223-pound Blue was the 181st pick. He played in 40 games for LSU, finishing his career with 1,253 yards and 11 touchdowns.
Blue also caught 16 passes for 107 yards.
During his junior year in 2012, Blue was the SEC’s No. 2 rusher heading into Week 3. He started the season with back-to-back games where he rushed for more than 100 yards, but he suffered a season-ending knee injury against Idaho in the third game of the season.
Blue returned for his senior season in 2013 and ended the year with 343 rushing yards and a touchdown. He also caught five passes for 62 yards in 13 games.
“I say I’m more of a balanced runner, a mixture of speed and power, a lot of versatility,” Blue told HoustonTexans.com. “I’m 6-foot-2, I can block, I can catch, move me out in the receiver spot. I can just do a whole lot.”
Blue looks up to Minnesota’s Adrian Peterson, especially while working to come back from his own ACL injury.
“Just growing up watching him, and watching what he overcame with the ACL,” Blue said. “He was a lot of motivation for me, too, when I tore my ACL. Watching him come back, what he did was unbelievable.”
During his senior year at Hahnville in 2009, Blue rushed for 1,695 yards and 25 touchdowns. He earned first-team All-State honors that year and was named the offensive MVP of District 6-5A.
