Former Destrehan High School standout placekicker Ryan Rome has decided to leave Tulane University and transfer to McNeese State.
The former All-State kicker had lost the placekicking job to Cairo Santos, who last season was a consensus 1st team All-American and was the 2012 winner of the Lou Groza Award as the top kicker in college football. Santos returns to the Green Wave in 2013 for his senior season.
Rome, who was used mostly as a kickoff artist for Tulane, will have two years of eligibility left and is eligible to play in 2013 for the Cowboys.
Rome was part of a group of talented players for Destrehan that went 29-0 in his final two seasons of prep football. As a senior, Rome connected on 8 of 11 field goal attempts and all 43 point after touchdown tries.
He was named the MVP in the Bayou vs. River Region showdown, hitting on attempts from 40 and 50 yards in the all-star contest.
The Cowboys not only landed Rome this past weekend, but they also got a verbal commitment from one of the top offensive line prospects in the Southeastern part of the state when South Terrebonne offensive tackle/guard Adam Ziepke decided to verbally commit.
