Destrehan falls to 1-2 after road trip to Alexandria

Destrehan's Jhase Thomas carries the ball in the team's preseason jamboree against Lutcher.

Alexandria wide receiver Darius Washington and running back JT Lindsey combined for five touchdowns to highlight a big offensive night by the Trojans, who defeated visiting Destrehan 45-27 Friday night.

The Wildcats played without starting quarterback Jackson Fields for the second consecutive week as Fields remains on the mend from injury. A’ushai Smith and Jhase Thomas each saw time at quarterback in his stead on Friday. It was a tough spot for Destrehan against one of the state’s highest scoring teams.

“I was proud of our effort. I thought there were a couple of plays that swung things early,” Destrehan head coach Marcus Scott said. “They had a short field on their first two possessions and got 14 quick points within the first five minutes. Once we settled down, we drove down the field and made it 14-7. I was proud of how the kids competed. I thought we played hard. We didn’t play well in spots, but I felt the effort was there.”

Malachi Dabney, Blake Brown and Greg Wilfred were among touchdown scorers for Destrehan (1-2), but it wasn’t enough to stick with an explosive Trojans offense for the game’s duration.

Washington scored three times on the night – all in the first half – for Alexandria while Lindsey punched in two scores on the ground to go with more than 200 yards rushing.

Alexandria jumped out to a 14-0 lead and never trailed in the game. The Trojans moved to 3-0 with the win.
