Destrehan’s J.R. Blood threw five touchdown passes, while Quinton Torbor and Quincy Brown each scored twice as the Wildcats came away with their fourth straight win Friday night, beating host H.L. Bourgeois 42-3.
DHS coach Stephen Robicheaux wanted to see his team play a more mistake-free game than it did a week ago at Central Lafourche. Though DHS (6-2, 4-1) fumbled the ball away on its first drive, the Wildcats got rolling after that, taking a 21-3 lead into halftime before scoring three quick touchdowns in the third quarter to slam the door shut on the Braves (1-7, 0-4)
“I thought we needed to have a big game,” Robicheaux said. “I thought we played well. Coach (Greg) Boyne did a real good job getting our young guys (Ed’Juan Green and Jadon Lewis) ready to go, and they ran it well. I thought J.R. ran our offense real well, threw some nice passes and kept the chains moving with his legs. And our defense was tremendous tonight.”
After nail biters in each of the past two weeks against East St. John and Central Lafourche, Robicheaux admitted it was nice to have a game in hand by the fourth quarter.
“It was nice to be able to enjoy one,” Robicheaux said. “That’s four in a row, we’re 6-2 now and we’re starting to build a little momentum.”
It was the second straight game DHS has missed the services of running backs John Emery and Kyle Edwards, but Green and Lewis made an impact Friday night in their stead. Green scored the first touchdown of the night late in the first quarter.
Carl Lewis got Destrehan a second touchdown when he scored on a second quarter jet sweep. Brown put Destrehan up 21-3 at halftime when Blood found him for their first touchdown connection of the night.
The Wildcats worked to free up Torbor, motioning the 6-foot-2 Division I recruit around the formation and creating mismatches. In the second half, Blood hit Torbor and Brown on scoring passes, while Torbor added another touchdown on a run.
