Both the Destrehan and Hahnville baseball teams picked up district wins last week, with each team’s victory coming against each other. The Wildcats struck first, notching their third district win of the season shortly after falling to Dutchtown in a 8-7 heartbreaker.
Destrehan, however, rebounded nicely and avenged an earlier loss to Hahnville by cruising past the Tigers for a 6-1 victory.
Hahnville, meanwhile, got their revenge two days later, holding on for a 4-3 victory over their arch rival to improve to 5-2 in their district and 18-8 overall.
Though the Tigers have a stellar record so far, they are still sitting at second place in their district, right behind East Ascension, who has a 21-6 overall record and a 6-1 district mark.
Hahnville will get the chance to take over that top spot this week since they battle East Ascension twice over the next two days.
Though Destrehan is sitting in the middle of the pack now, they also have a realistic shot of capturing the district title. The Wildcats are currently tied for fourth place with Dutchtown, but only trail third-place St. Amant by two games. St. Amant happens to be their opponent for their next two contests.
A sweep there could realistically move the Wildcats all the way into second place.
Though their baseball team still has a shot at the playoffs, things don’t look nearly as nice for the Destrehan softball team. The Lady Cats are currently 6-19-1 overall, with a 1-8 mark in their district.
Hahnville is also struggling somewhat in district play, though they still have an impressive 25-11-1 overall record.
The Lady Tigers 4-5 district mark currently has the team sitting in fourth place. Still, Hahnville has been impressive in their last three contests, beating Dutchtown 1-0, East St. John 6-1 and Lutcher 10-0.
While Hahnville’s fortunes are beginning to look up, the Lady Cats are currently in the midst of a six-game losing streak that includes losses to East Ascension, Dutchtown, Hahnville and St. Amant.
