Destrehan dominates H.L. Bourgeois, 56-12

Destrehan put it all together on the road Friday night, rolling over and past H.L. Bourgeois 56-12 in District 7-5A action.

Destrehan coach Stephen Robicheaux took a second to applaud his team’s efforts after its 56-12 victory at H.L. Bourgeois — then asked his team to join in and clap for themselves.

“The Wildcats are back,” Robicheaux said.

Indeed, after what the coach felt was a sluggish effort a week ago in a 31-7 homecoming victory over Central Lafourche, Destrehan couldn’t have looked crisper in its execution Friday night.

“We’re so excited with the way we played,” Robicheaux said. “We challenged our kids and they really responded. We played pretty flawlessly through the third quarter.”

Destrehan scored on the game’s second play, as Kohen Granier connected with Justin Jefferson for a 30-yard touchdown to make it 7-0.

Granier found Tremaine Armstrong for a 20-yard score, then Karon Taylor busted loose on an 80-yard rushing touchdown—and the Wildcats were off to the races.

Taylor added a second straight long run , this one a 48-yard scoring jaunt, to make it 28-0. John Williams’ punt return touchdown early in the second quarter made it 35-0, and Kohen Granier’s short touchdown pass to Chad Serrano capped Destrehan’s most methodical drive of the first half to make it 42-0. Serrano added another rushing score to push the lead to 49-0.

Destrehan even saved the best for last: freshman running back John Emery ripped off a 98-yard rushing score to push DHS over 50 points, his late third quarter run making it 56-0.

H.L. Bourgeois dropped to 5-3 (1-3 in district) with the loss.

The Destrehan first team allowed no points, Bourgeois’ two touchdowns coming against the second team in the fourth quarter.

“Our defensive front is big, and they came up big tonight,” Robicheaux said. “We needed Diontre Flowers to step up for Matt Young, who was out injured, and he came through in a big way.”

The Wildcats (8-0, 5-0) are one win away from a perfect district — and regular season — record. DHS will host Thibodaux next week.

“These players want to be good,” Robicheaux said. “The week of practice they put in, I knew we’d play well tonight. Next week we play a good Thibodaux team for the district championship. You can’t ask for more.”
