Jesuit ends Cazeaux’s tenure
Coach Frank Cazeaux had announced his intention to step down as head coach earlier in season. Instead of miracle run through the state baseball tournament, Cazeaux and the Tiger’s were sent home via the Jesuit Blue Jays.Jesuit’s bats came alive in the middle of the game, winning 9-3. The Blue Jays are the defending 5A Champions from last year and finished off Destrehan last year in title game.
Early in the game things looked good for the Tigers, as Hahnville jumped to a 3-1 lead in third inning, but it proved not to be enough of a lead.
Jesuit’s big inning was the fifth, scoring 6 runs and taking a commanding lead. Barry Butera had a two-run RBI with a no out single. Matt Ryan brought in one run, and John Facine drove in two more in the big inning.
Hahnville ace Aaron Loup was charged with loss, but Loup was the top hitter for the Tigers, going 3-4 with an RBI. The lefty finished his career at Hahnville with a 9-4 record this season. The Tigers finished the season 25-10.
In addition to Aaron Loup, the Tigers only lose four other seniors: Outfielder Jordan Frickey, Pitcher Tyler Thigpen and Pitcher Reid Pichon. With little loss in senior leadership, the Tigers should come back strong next year.
Replacing Cazeaux, who has not announced what he’ll do in retirement, is Kade Rogers. Rodgers is a 2000 graduate of the school and a former Tigers outfielder and the current assistant coach. He takes over for Cazeaux, who has resigned after two years at Hahnville.
