Derek Howard – HHS – University of Memphis
“We need big-play threats at wide receiver. It was a sore spot for us last season and our staff and I agree that Derek can really help us out at wide receiver. We recruited four high school players at the wide receiver spot and we think a lot of Howard. He has excellent size, strong hands, he runs well with the ball after the catch and he has been well schooled at Hahnville. We need people that can get up and make the key catches and I think Derek has the ability to excel in our program.”
Larry Porter,
University of Memphis head coach
Jordan Thompson – HHS – Nicholls State
“Our coaches really thought a lot of him and once I got to see him in action I was convinced he could really help us out upfront. We are going to a 3-4 front and we need a big body to play inside. We think Jordan has the skillset to excel inside for us. He’s a really good athlete and Jordan runs the field well. He’s very strong in the upper-body and he has really impressed the staff here on his ability to quickly play off of a block. With some added work in the weight room Jordan has the opportunity to help us pretty quick.”
Charlie Stubbs,
Nicholls State head coach
Brian Ensminger – HHS – Southeastern Louisiana
“We have been recruiting Brian, but it looked as though he was heading elsewhere for a while (Ensminger verbally committed to Stephen F. Austin in November), but we feel fortunate to land him. We did offer him in the summer. Our quarterback position is going to be wide open. I am excited to work with Brian. He’s a tough kid, he has a big-time arm and he can make every throw in the book. Brian also moves around well and he throws accurately on the move.”
Mike Lucas,
Southeastern Louisiana head coach
Elise deBruler – HHS – Spring Hill
Elise is a four-year starter who is a quiet leader. She has been a asset both as a player and a student. She will be successful in both athletics and her academic career because she is committed to being successful. You will hear from her again one day, and she will be in a very prominent position.
Ken Vial,
Hahnville head coach
Ethan Hutson – DHS – University of Mississippi
“Ethan gives us some versatility upfront. He comes from a great family, his dad was an excellent football player and he is a very intelligent young man. Ethan has played across the board along the offensive line – guard, tackle and center at Destrehan – and we probably will give him a shot at center early on. He has great size, he is technically strong and he understands positioning out on the field. Whoa, he fires out quickly out of his stance and I like that feature of his game.”
Houston Nutt,
University of Mississippi head coach
Ben Taylor – HHS – Nicholls State
“Right off the bat you can see he has terrific football instincts. Smart player, always around the ball and Ben is a real good open-field tackler. He’s been extremely productive in high school and we think he can help us pretty quickly in our base defense and on special teams. Ben is a terrific football player, a great student and he has the ability to read and react quickly to what is breaking down out on the field. Those traits give him a chance to not only compete, but to see playing time for us pretty quickly.”
Charlie Stubbs,
Nicholls State head coach
Alvin Kelly – HHS – Jackson State
“Right off the bat you can see he is a huge young man with real quick feet. I like my linemen with a wide base and Alvin has that. He has played in a scheme that throws the ball just as much as they run it and he has good pass blocking skills for a prep lineman, but I like his physical nature. The last two years they have run the ball well and Alvin was a big part of that smash-mouth approach. We will see once he gets here if he plays guard or tackle, but I was very impressed with him.”
Rick Comegy,
Jackson State head coach
Taylor Webre – HHS – Spring Hill
“Taylor is a three-year starter who leads by example. We have never had a harder working kid in the weight room, track or in the outfield. She also will be someone that will be very successful. I look for her to have a great career as a softball athlete.”
Ken Vial,
Hahnville head coach
