SCPPS kindergarten, pre-k, and Head Start registration opens Monday

St. Charles Parish residents can start registering their kindergarten, pre-k, and Head Start students for the 2023-2024 school year starting on Monday, Feb. 13.

Pre-k and Head Start applications can be completed online at stcharles.k12.la.us. Paper applications can be picked up from Carver Early Learning Center, East Bank Head Start, all elementary schools, and the School Board Office, located at 13855 River Road in Luling. Students must be 3 or 4 years of age on or before September 30, 2023 to qualify, and free transportation is provided for students enrolled in the 4-year-old program.

In-person registration events for pre-k and Head Start will be held at Carver Early Learning Center on Feb. 13 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and at the East Bank Head Start Center from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Feb. 14. Head Start and ESL staff will be available for support at each event.

District leaders said that applications for pre-k and Head Start are not on a first-come, first-serve basis, but that eligibility and placements are based on age, residential area and income. Applications must be submitted by March 17 to be considered for the first round of selections, and all information must accompany the completed application in order to be considered for admission.

Incomplete applications will not be accepted. To view eligibility requirements and needed documentation for registration, visit stcharles.k21.la.us.

Kindergarten registration applications can also be completed online or in-person. If a child is currently enrolled in a SCPPS pre-k or Head Start Program, no additional registration for kindergarten is needed.

In-person registration for kindergarten will take place March 6-10 from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Students must be registered at the school they will be attending, and officials said it is not necessary for the child to be present at registration.

Children who will be five years old by September 30 are eligible for kindergarten. Students registered either online or in-person by March 10 will be administered the Kindergarten Screener at an assigned time later in the spring.
