Satellite students work behind scenes of ABC26 broadcast

After ABC26 News Director Bob Noonan attended a Café Day put on by the Satellite Center’s Culinary Arts and Hotel, Restaurant and Tourism classes, he came away impressed.

In fact, he was so impressed that he decided to highlight the center in a segment called “In Your Neighborhood” and asked if students at the center could help produce the entire thing. The event eventually came to fruition, and last month, Advanced Television Broadcasting team members worked as directors, audio technicians, producers and photographers.

“This was a great opportunity for the team members,” Brian Howes, the public information coordinator of multi-media services at the center, said. “I am very proud of the students, not only for the great job, but also for the professional manner in which they handled themselves.”

And Howes wasn’t the only one who thought the students did a great job.

“ABC26 was very impressed,” Howes said. “There were a lot of off-camera high fives after each segment and they were available to talk to the students after the show.”

Overall, four individual segments were filmed at the center and all are available on the St. Charles Parish Public Schools’ Web site at http://www.stcharles.k12.la.us/news.cfm?story=2850. The first segment was an interview with ATVB team member Kelsey Matthews, while two others featured Satellite Center administrator Lasca Anderson and facilitator Rhitt Growl. The final segment highlighted alumni team member Kyle Tveten.

ABC26 news anchor Glenn Boyd also featured a story on the different courses offered at the center.

“This was a great opportunity to have the kind of hands-on experience that we strive to give all team members at the Satellite Center,” Howes said.
