Footballs take to the air in St. Charles Parish

This week offers us a good opportunity to get our minds off hurricanes and politics – – temporarily.

There are no more hurricanes heading our way yet after Dean and we still have plenty more time to decide who we will vote for in the elections.

But there is something else in the air. Footballs.

The pre-season jamboree will be held tonight at Destrehan High School. We’ll get a preview of what’s in store for our two teams that get a wealth of support from local residents.

In it, Destrehan will meet Lutcher and Hahnville will play St. James.

This issue of Herald-Guide has our annual prep football section. You can read information about the players, the schedules and commentary from sports analyst Mike Detillier about prospects for the year. Detillier also comments on why our two teams were moved to District 5-A and what effect it might have on them.

Regular seasons for our two teams start August 31. Destrehan meets Karr and Hahnville meets McDonough 35, both at home.

Hahnville and Destrehan have brought a lot of excitement to our Friday nights and it appears that they will continue to do so this year, with two good teams taking to the fields.

Show up tonight if you can and then plan to take advantage of the action that commands the stage in our parish during the fall. It adds to the fun of living in St. Charles.
