Council not expected to agree on everything

It’s been officially 100 days since the new council members and parish president took office in St. Charles Parish.

As residents living in the community watch televised meetings, we’ve been left with some concerns and some confusion.

How well does the council really get along?  We’ve witnessed many things so far, one council member asking for another to be investigated and disputes over the Quality Based Selection board, between one council member and several of the others.  How does this translate to the public?

Many question why they elected certain public officials in the first place, forums are packed with comments, most unfavorably.  But just as any new administration that enters the arena for the first time, there will be some bumps in the road.  The new administration is working hard to get much needed drainage protection for our communities and other valuable projects up and running like the levees and cleaning up our communities freeing them from trash and debris.

Parish President V.J. St. Pierre said it best, “We have hired an outstanding executive staff. People who have worked at the courthouse for years have said this is the best staff they’ve ever seen.”

While the president hand picked his staff, voters selected the council. As newly elected officials, we must support them and their efforts to move the parish forward for the next four years.

As Council Chairman Dennis Nuss said, “If we agreed on everything, that would mean we weren’t doing our best to show support for the residents living in our districts.”
