Veronica Hymel Aucoin

Veronica Hymel Aucoin passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 28, 2023 at the age of 89. She was born April 1, 1934 in Garyville, LA and was a longtime resident of Hahnville, LA.

She is preceded in death by her loving husband, Lionel G. Aucoin, her parents, Arthur J. Hymel and Lydia Plaisance Hymel, and siblings, Gertrude Jacob, Hazel Michel, Clyde Hymel, Elizabeth “Betty” Duhe’ Ramagos, Elmire Vicknair, and Michael Hymel.

She is survived by her loving children, Cedric Aucoin (the late Deena), Vernelle “Beannie” Salemi (David), Matthew Aucoin (Shaan), Lionel J. Aucoin (Juli), and Arthur Aucoin (Suzanne), grandchildren, Jaret Aucoin, Justin Salemi, Heather Salemi Mayeaux, Leigh Aucoin, Rachel Aucoin, Benjamin Aucoin, Michael Aucoin, Blakely Cervantes, Marissa Aucoin, and Bradley Aucoin, and six great-grandchildren, Kallan, Jack, Andy, Ashlyn, Jaxon, and Parker. She is also survived by her siblings, Kermit Hymel, Robert Hymel, Kenneth Hymel, Cynthia Schubhut, Tim Hymel, and Linda Haydel.

Veronica was a longtime parishioner, lecturer, and religion teacher at Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Hahnville and was proud of her strong faith. She was a prayer warrior and was honored with the Order of St. Louis Medallion by the Archdiocese of New Orleans. She was a founding member of the VFW 3750 Women’s Auxiliary and organized the 1976 Bicentennial celebration in St. Charles Parish. Veronica loved having a large family and enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, as well as playing bingo with her friends. She will be missed by all who were blessed to know her.

The family would like to thank SummerHouse Ashton Manor and Haydel Memorial Hospice for the excellent care they gave Veronica. They would also like to thank Mary Bourgeois, Shally Young, and Deacon Jason Binet for their frequent visits.

A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, June 6, 2023 at Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 1 Rectory Ln, Hahnville, LA. Visitation will be held from 9:30AM – 11AM with a Mass to begin at 11AM. Interment will follow at Holy Rosary Cemetery in Taft. In lieu of flowers, Mass intentions at Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church may be said in her name.
