BATISTE

Jackie Batiste Jr. on Saturday, Sept. 1 at Marathon Oil Refinery, Garyville. Son of Jackie Batiste Sr. of Tacome, Washington and Brenda M. Batiste of Edgard. Beloved husband of Keshia J. Batiste of Hahnville. Devoted father of Ja’Lon Joseph and Kiara M. Batiste. Caring brother of Sheretta Batiste of Edgard and Kendall (Carmita) Vedol of Vacherie. Son in law of Sonya (Kevin) Howard and Chris (Shelia) Joseph Sr. Also survived by six aunts, six uncles, one godchild, two nieces, one nephew and a host of other relatives and friends. Age 34 years. A native and resident of Edgard. Relatives and friends of the family, also priest and parishioners of St. John the Baptist and Holy Rosary Catholic Churches and all neighboring churches, employees of Marathon Oil Refinery of Garyville, East Jefferson Hospital, Occidental Chemicals (Taft Convent), St. Charles Hospital, St. Charles and St. John the Baptist school systems, Southeastern Louisiana University, Dow Chemicals, Brand Scaffold, NALCO, Petroleum Chemical, Monsanto, Shell Chemical, Valero Refinery, Mikens Specialties, Inc. Jacob Engineers and West St. John High School class of ‘91 were invited to attend the Mass of Christian Burial at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church on Saturday, Sept. 8 at 11 a.m. Father Joel Cantonie, celebrant. Interment at St. John the Baptist Cemetery in Edgard. Visitation was held at the above named church from 9 a.m. until Mass time. Recitation of the Holy Rosary was at 10 a.m. Serviced by Robottom.

BUCKLEY

Morris W. Buckley passed away peacefully on Tuesday, Sept. 4, 2007. Beloved husband and best friend of Johanna E. Buckley. Father of Johnny M. Buckley and wife Phyllis, Sally B. Sirmon and husband Louis. Grandfather of Leah Ann, Christie and Steven Plaisance. Also survived by extended family members Scott, Dee Dee, Sydnie, Melissa, John Jr. and Trenton. Mr. Buckley was a native of New Hebron, Mississippi and a resident of St. Charles Parish for the past 57 years. He will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by this family, friends, neighbors and members of Ellington Fitness Club and Exxon Mobil Retiree Club. Mr. Buckley was buried at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Simpson County, Mississippi on Sept. 7, 2007.

CARLTON

Funeral Services for Ben Carlton, age 62, were held on Sept. 3, 2007 at noon at David Funeral Home Chapel. Mr. Carlton Passed away on Aug. 31, 2007 at Lafayette General Medical Center at 7 a.m.

A native of Crockett, Texas Ben was a resident of Lafayette for many years.

Visitation was held on Monday, Sept. 3, 2007 from 10 a.m. until Services. Father Glenn Meaux officiated.

Survivors include his wife, Cynthia Young Carlton; two daughters, Nancy Bourque and her husband Armond of Luling, La. and Jayme Lisabeth Carlton of Lafayette; two sons Rush Joshua Carlton and his wife Jamie of Metairie and Jeff Logan Carlton of Lafayette; two sisters, Dorothy “Nell” Balcher of Commerce, Texas, Cynthia Kay Engle of Crockett, Texas; three brothers, Milton Ray Carlton of Franklin, Clayton Carlton of LaRose and Ivy Lee Carlton of Commerce, Texas. Ben is also survived by four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Ben is preceded by his parents; Snide Rushing and Reba Jewel Gates Carlton; one brother, Leland Carlton.

OWENS

Funeral services were held on Monday, Sept. 3, 2007, at a 2 p.m. in La Chapelle de Martin & Castille in Lafayette for William C. Owens, Sr., 86, who passed away peacefully on Sunday, Sept. 2, 2007 in Meadowbrook Rehabilitation Hospital. Entombment was in the Peace Chapel Mausoleum at Lafayette Memorial Park Cemetery

Reverend Luther Burney will conduct the funeral services.?Mrs. Ramona Carmichael, accompanied on the organ by Mrs. Nell Lokey, sang for the services “In the Garden,” “Amazing Grace” and “How Great Thou Art.”

Survivors include his beloved wife of sixty-six years, Margratte P. Owens; two sons, Dr. Richard Lee Owens of Destrehan, LA and Robert Charles Owens, Sr. of Baton Rouge, LA; one brother, Leroy Owens of Houston, Texas; eight grandchildren and three great grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Martin Granville Owens and Ohis Tatum Owens; one son, William C. Owens, Jr.; one grandchild, Jonathan Owens; three brothers, Garland G. Owens, Donald Jimmy Owens and Richard David Owens; and three sisters, Nadine O. Gilbert, Betty Zo Owens and Billie Marie Alexander.

A native of Oklahoma and a resident of Lafayette for most of his life, Mr. Owens was a District Manager of Baker Sand Control(now Baker Hughes Incorporated). He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, son, brother and friend to all who knew him and will be greatly missed.

Mr. Owens was a member of First Baptist Church of Lafayette.

Pallbearers will be grandsons, Richard Owens, Jr., Ross Owens, Reid Owens, Robert Owens, Jr., Caleb Owens and William Owens III.

Honorary pallbearer will be his deceased grandson, Jonathan Edward Owens.

The family requests that visitation be observed on Monday from 1 p.m. until time of the services at Martin & Castille Funeral Home.

PERTUIT

John Richard Pertuit, entrepreneur and WWII veteran, entered rest on Aug. 31, 2007 was interred in a private service at the Port Hudson National Cemetery. Preceded in death by his father John Howard (Jean-Baptiste) Pertuit, mother Marguerite Herbert Pertuit and sister Pearl Bealer. Survived by his beloved wife of 57 years, Audrey Waguespack Pertuit and children: Diane Smith, Linda Rovira and John J. (JJ) Pertuit, eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren and his brother George Pertuit and half-brother Jimmy Vinet. Alexander Funeral of Lutcher in charge of arrangements.
