Margaret “Peggy” Hightshoe

It is with great sadness that the family of Margaret “Peggy” Hightshoe announce her passing on August 12, 2021 at the age of 101 years old. Mrs. Margaret “Peggy” Corey Hightshoe, daughter of the late Thomas and Ayouka Corey, was born August 8,1920 in New Brunswick, Canada. She attended the public schools of Caribou, Maine and was a graduate of Caribou High School. Peggy was one of 10 children. She grew up working at her family’s hotels in Caribou. She was very proud of her Lebanese heritage and celebrated her culture, traditions, and cuisine. Peggy was a spiritual woman and embraced her Episcopalian faith.

Peggy married the late Arthur Beattie Hightshoe and they were blessed with a son, Arthur Beattie Hightshoe, Jr. The family lived in Helena, AR., Philadelphia, PA., and Luling, La. She worked with Pure Oil in Helena, Arkansas and the Gas Company in Luling, Louisiana. Peggy and her husband retired in Ft. Walton, Florida where she was very active in her community. She was the unofficial greeter at her home, Emerald Isle, and made everyone feel welcome.

Peggy was a devoted friend and will be remembered for her humor and loyalty. Peggy was an excellent cook and known for her kibbeh and catfish recipes. She was an avid reader and could devour a book in a sitting. She was an excellent bridge player and was always gracious in victory. Peggy adored the movie, “Dirty Dancing”, and loved all things “Elvis”.

Peggy is survived by her son, Arthur Beattie Hightshoe, Jr.; daughter-in-law, Kristine Olson Hightshoe; granddaughter, Allison Hightshoe Bescak; grandson-in-law, Todd M. Bescak; great-granddaughter, Olivia Anne Bescak;  great-granddaughter, Madison Jordan Bescak; great-grandson, Todd M. Bescak, Jr.; granddaughter, Anne Hightshoe González; grandson-in-law, Orlando A. González; great-granddaughter, Paloma Cristina González; great-grandson, Orlando Arturo González; as well as many nieces, nephews and countless friends.

A Memorial Service will be scheduled for a later date. Memorial donations may be made in Peggy Hightshoe’s name to the Lebanese Relief Fund Made Payable to St. Anthony Church, 145 Amesbury Street, Lawrence, MA. 01841 (Memo: Margaret Hightshoe for Lebanese Relief Fund)
