Isiah “Honko, Milman, Pop” Franklin Sr.

Isiah (Honko, Milman, Pop) Franklin Sr. passed away peacefully on Oct. 22 at Ormond Nursing and Care Center in Destrehan.

Franklin was the son of the late Celestine and Marshall Franklin Sr., and husband by first marriage of the late Ruth Thomas Franklin and by second marriage of the late Philomene Williams Franklin.

He was the father of the Rev. Isiah Jr. (Ella), Kathy F. Hunter (Leroy), Leroy Franklin (Patricia), Don E. Franklin (Lenneria), and the late Larry Franklin; father-in-law of Annette D. Franklin; brother of the late Marshall Franklin Jr., Landry Fox, Matthew Franklin, Susan Davis and Martha Gross.

Franklin also was survived by 23 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.The 95-year-old native of Luling was a Hahnville resident and most recently Destrehan. He was a World War II veteran.Relatives and friends of the family, also pastors, officers and members of Mt. Zion Baptist Church and all neighboring churches and members of American Legion Post 509, Gran United Order of Odd Fellows No. 2842.

Household of Ruth No. 1346, Staff of Ormond Nursing and St. Catherine Hospice were invited to the funeral service at Mt. Zion Baptist Church in St. Rose on Oct. 31.

The Rev. Isiah Franklin Jr., Pastor. Rev. Forell Berring, Rev. Renard Dabney and Rev. Blair Mitchell, spiritual assistants. Burial was in Restlawn Cemetery in Avondale.
