Eddie Faye McCain-Hingle

Eddie Faye McCain-Hingle, 92, passed away at her home in Prairieville, LA, on Sunday, June 26, 2022.

Eddie Faye Stewart was born May 24, 1930, in Beaumont, Texas, the daughter of Charles Bogan Stewart and Nannie Ernie Eakin. Although Eddie Faye lived in several places like Texas, Mississippi, and Florida, she was a true Louisiana girl at heart. While working as a waitress at a diner in New Orleans, she met a sailor boy by the name of Lindell (Lin) Hosea McCain. They were married in 1948 and were able to spend almost 49 years together as husband and wife. Lin passed away in 1997 in Pensacola, Florida, and Eddie returned to Louisiana in 1998 where she was able to live out the rest of her life in Prairieville close to her daughter Denise. During that time, she married Paul Hingle in 2002 and they were able to share 14 years together.

Eddie Faye was an incredible cook and her seafood gumbo was her specialty, particularly with her family. There truly was no better seafood gumbo than Eddie Faye’s in all of South Louisiana!

As a young girl growing up during the Great Depression and World War II, she eventually was afforded the opportunity to go back to school and earn her high school diploma, become an LPN, and eventually attended Nicholls State to become a Registered Nurse. Her nursing experiences aided her in serving others, which was one of Eddie Faye’s true callings in life. She was an incredible mom, caregiver, friend and servant of the Lord.

In addition to her parents and husbands, going on before her were her siblings, Vickie Stewart Griffin Hue; Sybil Stewart McMillan Caimi; Edith Stewart Runnels; Sidney Stewart and Betty Ruth Stewart.

She is survived by 3 children: Pastor Michael (Mike) McCain of New London, Minnesota (Connie); David W. McCain of Newark, New Jersey (John); and Denise McCain Fulkerson of Prairieville (Johnny). Other survivors include 6 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren, as well as a number of nieces and nephews.

A special thanks goes out to her long-time physician, Dr. Bunnie Hill. The family truly appreciates all the love and care provided by her and her nursing staff.

Funeral services will be held at Ascension Baptist Church, located at 13432 Airline Highway, Gonzales, LA, on Wednesday, July 6. Visitation begins at 9:00 a.m. and service will be held at 10:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made to your favorite charity. Interment will follow at Mt. Zion Cemetery, located at 17683 LA-933, Prairieville, LA.

Peace to her memory.
