Woman stabbed to death in Destrehan, her mother rushed to hospital

Mother fled home and gave note to neighbor that police needed to be called

A woman was found stabbed to death in her Destrehan home Wednesday morning and her mother, who walked in on the attack, was rushed to the hospital with what appears to be stab wounds.

The St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office is now seeking the victim’s boyfriend in connection with the attack.

The suspect in the murder, 34-year-old Bruce Bourgeois Jr., had spoken to his live-in girlfriend’s mother, Carmelina Waite, earlier in the day and asked for a ride to his probation officer. He said that his girlfriend, Mia Waite, was sick and couldn’t bring him, according to Sgt. Dwayne LaGrange, spokesman for the St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office.

When Carmelina arrived at the home Bourgeois and Mia shared, she asked to see her daughter but Bourgeois refused to let her do so, LaGrange said. Instead, Bourgeois allegedly attacked Carmelina, but she was eventually able to escape to a home across the street. Though her injuries were so severe that she was unable to speak, Carmelina handed the neighbor a note that said police needed to respond to 318 Madewood Drive.

When deputies arrived at the scene at 9:07 a.m. they found Mia dead in the bathroom from what appears to be multiple stab wounds.

Carmelina was rushed to the hospital and remains in critical condition.

Mia had a child with Bourgeois. LaGrange said the child was moved to a secure location.

Police are asking the public to be on the lookout for Bourgeois, who is considered armed and dangerous. He is 6 feet tall and weighs 180 pounds. He is believed to be driving a grey Toyota Scion XD with license plate number VTE 461.

Anyone knowing Bourgeois’ whereabouts should call 911.
