Wildcats fall to Lutcher, 27-8

The Lutcher Bulldogs scored 21 points in the second quarter to put away the Wildcats and earn a 27-8 victory.

The Wildcats actually held their own throughout the first quarter, getting inside Lutcher’s 35 twice in the period. However, an incompletion on 4th and 14, along with a fumble by Mark Trudeaux on the Lutcher 26 kept the Wildcats from getting on the score board.

The Bulldogs wasted little time taking a lead to start the second, when Ruston Matherne found Jarvis Landry from 7 yards out. Destrehan would block the extra point, but Lutcher led 6-0.

After the Wildcats failed to convert a 4th and 1 play on their next possession, Lutcher took over and drove down the field with Matherne connecting on passes to several different receivers. Matherne then took the ball in himself from 16 yards out to give the Bulldogs a 14-0 lead after a successful two-point conversion.

On the ensuing kickoff, Destrehan running back Lou Donovan Wells scooped up the ball and headed to the left sideline where he was cornered in by several Lutcher defenders. While Wells tried to get to the sideline, the ball was knocked out of his hands.

Bulldog Jordan Batiste picked the ball up on a bounce and carried it 14 yards into the endzone.

Trailing 21-0 heading into the third, the Wildcats put together a nice drive and finally got on the board after quarterback Dillan Dent scrambled in from 5 yards out. Fermin Victor ran in the two-point conversion to make the score 21-8.

But Lutcher’s Daniel Taylor put the game away shortly after on a 19-yard touchdown run.
