Where will Hurricane Ike strike?

EOC director says to get prepared

As Hurricane Gustav starts to diminish, Hurricane Ike is ready to take aim. Emergency Operations Center Director Tab Troxler says it’s too early to tell where Ike will make landfall, but his advice to residents is to get prepared.

“Hurricane Ike doesn’t know we just got over Hurricane Gustav,” Troxler said. “The fact that we left and people may be tired has no affect on the next storm.”

Troxler advises residents to treat each storm separately and take the same precautions.

“In the end we evacuated 1,140 of our residents safely out of St. Charles Parish,” he said. “Parish employees, mainly from the parish’s recreation department, ran the shelter once the residents got there.”

Troxler says that right now the parish isn’t taking any special measures for Hurricane Ike because the storm is too far away to make any kind of predictions.

Forecasters have the storm track continuing west and into the Gulf of Mexico by Wednesday.

Ike has been blamed for killing at least 58 people in Haiti. Ike bore down on Cuba after roaring across other Caribbean islands Sunday and has already killed more than 300 people.
