Waggaman man pleads guilty to stabbing

Second-degree murder charge reduced to battery

A Waggaman man who allegedly stabbed a St. Rose man in the neck in January of 2016 recently pleaded guilty to a charge of aggravated second degree battery.

Jerry Brown, 36, was sentenced to serve 15 months in prison, with an additional 105 months suspended in conjunction with five years active probation.

Brown was initially charged with attempted second-degree murder before the charge was amended to battery early on court proceedings. He pleaded guilty to the charge of battery as part of a plea bargain.

The altercation occurred at night on Jan. 8 of last year and reportedly led to serious injury for the victim which required surgery, according to the St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office. Brown turned himself in to St. Charles police a day after the incident occurred.

Brown, 35, was being sought in connection with stabbing a St. Rose man in the neck following an altercation at about 9 p.m., Yoes said.

Part of the terms of Brown’s probation dictate he must obtain a high school degree or equivalent; must perform a job search twice a week until finding employment; must have no contact with the victim; and must pay a fine of $100 plus court costs and pay a $60 per month supervision fee.

He is serving his sentence at Nelson Coleman Correctional Facility.
