Traffic impact analysis in parish’s Roads and Bridges budget

Plans also calls for walking path expansions, turn lanes, speed signs

A traffic impact analysis, additional turning lanes and walking paths expansion are among key projects with funding in the St. Charles Parish Council’s recently adopted $2.1 million Road and Bridge Capital Budget for 2017-19.

The projects are budgeted in addition to annual road maintenance for the parish, according to parish spokesman Tristan Babin.

The analysis will identify potential projects aimed at easing traffic congestion as follows:

– Installing a turn lane along U.S. Highway 90 at one or more of these locations: Wade Street, Maryland Drive and Willowdale Boulevard.

– Installing electronic speed signs along Ormond Boulevard and/or Evangeline Road.

Additional projects planned in the budget include road engineering work for Ashton Subdivision, continued installation of curbs along Long View in Destrehan, continued work on the Mississippi River levee bike path with the final phase of the East Bank work to extend through Bonnet Carre’ Spillway and West Bank work to include the final two phases from Highway 3161 to the parish line.

Work also is planned on relocating historic light poles along River Road on the East Bank.

Based on the approved budget, some $1.1 million is dedicated next year. Of that total, $500,000 is dedicated to transportation special revenue and $600,000 to road and drainage work.

The 2018 budget allotment is $500,000, and the 2019 total of $500,000 also is dedicated solely to transportation work.
