Third teen charged in robbery

A third Destrehan teen has been arrested in connection with a robbery that took place in the parking lot of Capital One Bank in October.

Howard Charles Jr., of 304 River Oaks Drive, was arrested last week at Destrehan High School and charged with armed robbery.

Charles, along with 17 year olds Brandon Simms and James Walker Jr. are accused of robbing a Popeye’s employee while she attempted to make a night deposit at the bank.

According to the St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office, the 50-year-old woman was walking to the front of the bank a little after 10 p.m. when she was attacked by several men.
One of them was carrying a knife, authorities say, and the woman was pushed to the ground and had two bank bags stolen.

The amount of money that was taken was not released.

Sheriff’s Office spokesman Capt. Pat Yoes said the robbers were able to conceal themselves because of the layout of the bank property.

“If you’re traveling on the road, it’s hard to see anyone at the bank because it is set back farther than the two businesses that are on either side of it,” he said.

One of those businesses is Popeye’s.

All three teenagers were booked into the Nelson Coleman Correctional Center in Killona.

Charles’ bond is $150,000. Simms and Walker are both being held under a $75,000 bond.
