Teens arrested for bank parking lot robbery

Two Destrehan teens have been arrested in connection with an armed robbery that occurred at the Capital One Bank in Destrehan in October.

Brandon L. Simms, 17, of 210 Meadows Drive, and James C. Walker, 17, of 326 River Oaks Drive, were arrested on Monday and have both been charged with armed robbery.

The incident occurred in late October, when a 50-year-old Popeye’s employee was robbed at knifepoint while attempting to make a night deposit at the bank. According to the St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office, the woman was walking to the front of the bank a little after 10 p.m. when she was attacked by several men.

One of them was carrying a knife, authorities say, and the woman was pushed to the ground and had two bank bags stolen. The amount of money that was taken was not released.

Sheriff’s Office spokesman Capt. Pat Yoes said the robbers were able to conceal themselves because of the layout of the bank property.

“If you’re traveling on the road, it’s hard to see anyone at the bank because it is set back farther than the two businesses that are on either side of it,” he said.

One of those businesses is Popeye’s.

The incident is still under investigation and anyone having any information about the robbery is asked to contact Det. Jeremy Pitchford at (985)783-1135 or (985)783-6807.
