Teen convicted of burglarizing State Trooper’s Destrehan home

Will serve 18 months in prison

A Destrehan teen will serve 18 months in prison after being convicted of burglarizing the Destrehan home of a Louisiana State Trooper.

Dillyn Austin, 19, of 1952 Ormond Blvd., allegedly stole several items from the River Point Drive home of State Trooper Victor Taylor, including multiple firearms, according to the St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office.

Other items taken were a PlayStation 4, two small safes, a Super Bowl XLVII State Police badge, a 50-year Commemorative State Police badge, money, two iPhones and assorted collectible coins that included a F15 Air Force Anniversary coin and a Lady Liberty coin.

Austin pleaded guilty as part of a plea bargain and received a prison sentence of six years, with 18 months of the sentence to be served immediately and 54 months suspended.

He was also put on five-year active probation and must pay a restitution of $2,412.53 to Taylor and an additional $750 to cover fine and court costs. He must also pay a monthly fee of $60 to the Louisiana Department of Corrections for supervision.

Once released, his probation would require him to perform 80 hours of community service; to search for a job twice a week
