Taco Bell coming to St. Rose

St. Charles Parish Council approved a rezoning request that cleared the way for construction of a Taco Bell restaurant on Airline Highway in St. Rose.

Bruce Bourgeois, who owns the property along with his wife, Lorna, requested and got approval to rezone nearly an acre of land from light commercial to C3 or a classification that allows putting a restaurant on the site. The parish’s

Planning and Zoning Department recommended the change.

Council members Dick Gibbs and Mary Clulee thanked Bourgeois for bringing a new business to the parish.

Later, Bourgeois noted how appreciative he was for the recognition, calling it the “first time ever” for the comments.

The 2,106 square-foot Taco Bell will become part of the Bourgeois’ 65-acre development called Fairview Plantation.B&G Foods of Morgan City approached Bourgeois about buying the near-acre site. The company owns more than 200 stores that include Taco Bell, KFC and Long John Silver.

“We’re extremely excited about this location and we think it will show some very strong sales,” Adler said.

Adler also praised dealings with Bourgeois and the parish to make the restaurant possible.

Bourgeois said the Mexican fast food restaurant will be built next to the Waffle House in the development. Adler added they anticipate a ground breaking in the third or fourth quarter of this year.

Keith Adler, a broker with Corporate Realty in New Orleans that has been lining up new restaurant sites for B&G Foods across Louisiana, Texas and Mississippi, called the Airline Highway site a “win win win” for everyone.

Fairview Plantation also includes an 8-1/2-acre driving range called St. Rose Driving Range. By next year, Bourgeois said they plan to build a second range on nearly 9 acres behind the restaurants. Plans are to build a two-story, multi-level range similar to Top Golf Group that will include a meeting center for gatherings like birthday parties and meetings.

“It’s very exciting,” he said. “We’re serious. It will be just a fun place to be.”

Describing the project as being in the conceptual stage, Bourgeois said they plan to begin construction in about a year.
