Seasoned chef poised to open new restaurant in St. Rose

Chef Joseph Boudreaux

Chef Joseph Boudreaux remembers eating at a restaurant on River Road in St. Rose with his father and grandfather when he was growing up – then it was known as St. Rose Tavern, and now the building will bear his name.

Boudreaux grew up in Destrehan and is currently the chef at Frenier Landing Restaurant and Oyster Bar.

“I’ve been working there for about 13 years,” he said of the LaPlace restaurant. “I started working there when I was 17 years old and worked there through Delgado Culinary School.”

Boudreaux said he is excited to join Crystal Bird, who owns Frenier Landing, as they open Boudreaux’s River Road Restaurant in St. Rose.

“She got an offer to come look at the old Truck Farm Tavern and she wanted to bring me along for this adventure,” he said. “We were amazed by the place … it’s beautiful. We looked at each other and said, ‘We can make this work.’”

Bird said the new restaurant will feature happy hours, live music, lunch specials, and a menu that offers something for everyone. The duo is aiming to open the restaurant by the end of March.

“I just think it’s way too charming to not be open,” she said. “We weren’t really looking to open up something else, but we were given this opportunity and we just thought we couldn’t pass this up. We love the nostalgic feel here.”

While menu items are still being finalized, Bird said that Boudreaux’s River Road Restaurant will definitely feature pastas, seafood, smoked BBQ, red fish tacos, and steak. The restaurant is located at 11760 River Road in St. Rose.

“We just want to serve good food and be nice to people,” she said. “We want people to come relax and enjoy a nice evening.”

Boudreaux said he is excited for the public to see what he and Bird have been cooking up.

“We have a lot of inventive but affordable options,” Boudreaux said. “I know a lot of people are going to love it. I am I am extremely excited … it’s always been a dream to have a place like this.”
