Free concert and vaccine event slated for Tuesday

The Bucktown All-Stars will provide entertainment at the Back to School Bash, and the Pfizer vaccine will be available through the mobile Ochsner Vaccine Van.

St. Charles Parish, in conjunction with UnitedHealthcare Community Plan and St. Charles Parish Hospital, will host a free concert and vaccination event on Aug. 10 from 4-7 p.m. at the Edward A. Dufresne Community Center.

“We wanted to offer the community a fun event while also providing an opportunity for people to get vaccinated if they choose,” St. Charles Parish President Matthew Jewell said. “I am appreciative of United Healthcare Community Plan’s sponsorship of this event and their commitment to providing valuable resources to our community, and I look forward to seeing our residents at this event.”

The Bucktown All-Stars will provide entertainment at the Back to School Bash, and the Pfizer vaccine will be available through the mobile Ochsner Vaccine Van. The Pfizer vaccine is available for everyone 12 years and older, and individuals electing to get vaccinated at the event will be contacted by Ochsner to schedule their second dose.

“As variants of COVID-19 continue to emerge in our communities, it has never been more important for people to get vaccinated,” St. Charles Parish Hospital CEO Keith Dacus said.  “By getting the vaccine, you will be protecting yourself and those around you, ultimately ending this pandemic.”

The concert will occur outside of the community center, which is located at 274 Judge Edward Dufresne Parkway in Luling. Organizers said free food, drinks and snowballs will be served, and that attendees are encouraged to bring their own chairs. Outside food and beverages are permitted.
