St. Charles Parish Finance Department wins national award for financial report

The Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting has been awarded to the Parish of St. Charles by the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) for its 2015 comprehensive annual financial report (CAFR).

“This award is a testament to the hard work done by our Finance Department to ensure that we present clear, honest financial reporting,” said Parish President Larry Cochran. “It is an honor for the parish to receive it again.”

According to the GFOA, the Certificate of Achievement is the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting. Its attainment represents a significant accomplishment by a government and its management.

The CAFR is judged by an impartial panel to meet the standards of the program demonstrating a constructive “spirit of full disclosure” to clearly communicate its financial story and motivate potential users and user groups to read the CAFR.

“Each year the standards of excellence required to obtain this award increase,” said Chief Financial Officer Grant Dussom. “The fact that the Finance Department has now churned out an unprecedented 19 consecutive awards only further enhances our commitment to excellence in financial reporting. We are going to continue striving to outdo ourselves each year.”The GFOA is a major professional association servicing the needs of approximately 17,500 appointed and elected local, state and provincial-level government officials and other finance practitioners. The association is headquartered in Chicago, Illinois, with offices in Washington, D.C.
