Sheriff: St. Rose woman may have killed pal over $20

Police arrested a St. Rose woman in the murder of Willie London 33, of 629 Turtle Creek Lane.Sheriff Greg Champagne says the first murder of the year committed in St. Charles Parish may have been over a $20 drug debt.

“We are still gathering information in this case and conducting our investigation, the information about the possible motive is coming from a few witness statements,” Champagne says.

London, an auto mechanic, died from a gunshot wound to the head.

Davis was booked on first degree murder charges. Charged, too, was with Keina Bickham, 20, of 641 Turtle Creek Lane, who allegedly helped Davis flee from the scene.

“Our parish averages about three murders a year and are usually domestic in nature,” the sheriff said.

That means the victims usually know each other and there is a relationship involved.

“Usually these types of crimes are not associated with a law abiding citizen going through their ordinary day and then they are a victim of a random murder,” Champagne says.

Champagne tells the Herald-Guide between Sept. and Dec. 2006 there were four murders in St. Charles Parish, all domestic: one between a homosexual who killed a lover, one between a common law wife who killed her common law husband, and the two other victims were involved in high-risk lifestyles, such as living in the drug culture.
