Second frog heist suspect arrested

The St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office has made a second arrest in connection with an incident where three teens were robbed of two frogs.

Trontez M. Simmons, 21, of 137 Sharon St. in Boutte, was arrested on Aug. 15 and charged with first degree robbery and false impersonation of a peace officer.

The incident occurred at 10:30 p.m. on July 17 when an 18-year-old man and two 16-year-old boys were catching frogs in a small boat in the canal at the end of Kellogg Street in Mimosa.

According to the teens, they were called over to the bank of the canal by five or six men who claimed to be Department of Wildlife and Fisheries agents. When the teens got to the bank, one of the men pulled out a shotgun and demanded everything they had, according to the report.

The only items the teens had on them were the two frogs that they had caught, and they handed them over. The robbers then fled the scene towards the Mimosa swimming pool.
