A body was found floating in the Mississippi River near Valero this morning at 8:19 a.m. After an autopsy, the body has been identified as Kylan Laurent, the man who jumped off the Veterans Memorial Bridge more than a week ago.

LULING – R.K. Smith Middle School will host its 2nd Annual Community Empowerment Fair on Aug. 27 from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. The fair will take place on the school grounds and includes health screenings, arts and crafts, games, activities, snacks and more.
DES ALLEMANDS – Teens can join the Des Allemands Volunteer Fire Department for a Back-to-School Dance on Aug. 27 from 7-11 p.m. at 16960 Highway 90. The dance is for ages 10-16 and entry is $5. Music will be by DJ Fish and concessions will be sold. Parents must sign children in and out of dance.
The bad news is the U.S. credit rating was recently downgraded by Standard and Poor’s. In essence, that rating agency said the soundness of our government’s finances is more risky than that of nations like England, France, Canada and Australia.
It may not seem like football season due to the sweltering heat, but players at both Hahnville and Destrehan high schools will strap on their helmets and don their pads for the annual kick off of football in St. Charles – the Ed Reed Jamboree.
