The Destrehan Wildcats are scorching hot.

Destrehan put the finishing touches on its eighth consecutive win Tuesday as it won in dominant fashion over East St. John, 14-1.  On Wednesday DHS captured a 5-2 win over Vandebilt Catholic and on Thursday DHS felled Chalmette 5-4. Each of the wins came as part of a 3-game homestand.

The Wildcats are 14-3 in their past 17 games, with the three losses coming by one run each, and all but two wins coming by multiple runs.

“Coach just got on us a little (after a tough stretch) and we realized we needed to start caring more and playing more as a unit than as individuals,” said Brycen Harding, who earned his 6th win of the season in a 12-0 win over Newman last week. “We hold each other accountable. It definitely has felt different (the past few weeks).”

The win over ESJ saw Bradly Hubbard and Tyler Boos combine for a five-inning no-hitter, with Hubbard earning the win after striking out five in three shutout innings.

Jonah Haslauer went 2-for-2 with three RBIs and two runs scored to lead the offense. Brady Mire drove in two runs and Walker Dew scored twice for the Wildcats.

One day earlier, DHS won a tight district matchup against Thibodaux, earning a 2-1 victory on the road.

John Carmichael pitched a complete game and allowed one unearned run while striking out nine and walking one.

Jayse DeGruy went 2-for-4 with an RBI while Mire went 1-for-2 with a solo home run that proved to be the difference maker.

Harding combined with Tyler Boos and Payton Stubbs for five shutout innings as Destrehan blanked Newman 12-0.

Shane Lee went 2-for-2 with a double, two RBIs and a walk. Carmichael was 1-for-1 with two runs scored and an RBI. Harding helped his own cause by driving in a pair of runs. Mire and Carmichael each accounted for two of Destrehan’s seven stolen bases on the day.

DESTREHAN 5, CHALMETTE 4 – DeGruy was the hero Thursday as his walkoff RBI single delivered the winning run in a 5-4 victory over Chalmette.

Harding went 3-for-3 at the plate and went 5.2 innings on the mound. Harding drove in a run, while Hubbard plated two in the win, also doubling. DeGruy went 2-for-4 including his game-winning hit and RBI.  Harding allowed four runs on six hits, with five strikeouts and two walks in his start. Stubbs earned the win in relief, going 1.1 scoreless and hitless innings with a pair of strikeouts.
