Boasting great music, tasty food and a lively crowd, there’s plenty of fun to be had at the 45th annual River Parishes Fall Festival this weekend.
The festival, which takes place at Sacred Heart of Jesus School in Norco, begins Friday at 6 p.m., will draw residents from all across the River Parishes and beyond, and it is known to provide a little something for everyone to enjoy.
“People really look forward to it,” said Cheryl Orillion, Sacred Heart’s principal. “We usually get a pretty big crowd of locals, and a lot of people who have moved away come back for it. It’s a really fun get together for our community.”The food at a River Parishes festival is generally a big draw, and not surprisingly, the same is true for the Fall Festival.
The softshell crab po-boy is historically one of the most delicious and popular items. Whether it’s a craving for oysters, fish, shrimp, meat pies, crab cakes, jambalaya, pastalaya or onion mums, the festival is the place to get these dishes.
“The seafood is always very, very good and extremely popular,” said Orillion.
It wouldn’t be a festival without music, and the Fall Festival will feature five live acts this year.
On Friday, Nashville South will take the stage at 7 p.m. On Saturday, Off the Hook performs at 3 p.m. and Karma takes over at 7 p.m. Sunday will feature the tunes of Giacomo at 3 p.m. and the Phunky Monkeys at 7 p.m.
In addition to the music acts, there will be an arts and crafts show as well for those interested in exploring their artsy sides, featuring jewelry, yard art, sports items, candles and more.
The show will be held Saturday from noon to 8 p.m. and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Winners from the annual Queen of Hearts pageant will be presented at the festival as well.
For children — and, let’s be honest, for much of the older crowd too — there will be a number of rides among the attractions. And for the most competitive among us, dodgeball and basketball tournaments will be featured at the school gymnasium, in addition to a 5K run and walk and a fun run for children, each of which will begin at 10 a.m. Sunday.
There will also be a raffle drawing to determine two $500 winners.
Admission to the River Parishes Fall Festival is free. The festival is open from 6-10 p.m. on Friday, 12-10 p.m. on Saturday and 11 a.m. – 9 p.m. on Sunday.
