Family members of a WWII veteran and his wife who were the victims of a burglary on Monday afternoon are offering a reward for any information leading to the arrest of those responsible for the break in.
The couple lives on River Road near Monsanto Park in Luling and are usually home during the day, according to St. Charles Parish Sheriff Greg Champagne. However, both the husband and wife left on separate errands for only a couple of hours when the burglars struck at around 2 p.m. The burglars gained access to the home by kicking in the rear door.
“We strongly believe that the perpetrators were aware of the short absence of the homeowners,” Champagne said.
Items taken during the burglary include a German Luger pistol that the homeowner acquired during WWII in Germany, a 55-inch flatscreeen TV, a 30-caliber rifle and jewelry.
Crimestoppers and family members of the victim are offering a $2,500 reward in the case.
Detectives are seeking information regarding this burglary and ask to be contacted if someone attempts to sell the German Luger pistol or carbine. Anyone with information can call Crimestoppers at (504)822-1111 or Lt. Donnie Smith at (985)783-1135.
