Remains of man missing since 2012 are identified

Disappeared during Hurricane Isaac

The remains of a man reported missing on Aug. 29, 2012 have been identified as Antoine Edmund Sr., 92, who suffered from Alzheimer’s disease.St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office spokesman Capt. Pat Yoes said human remains were located on Nov. 19, 2016 in a wooded area south of Acorn Street in Boutte near where Edmund was reported missing.

K9 Freckles and his handler, Sgt. Roy Gautreaux were contacted, and with the aid of investigators, located multiple bones, which were sent to Louisiana State University Forensic Anthropology and Computer Enhancement Services Laboratory (FACES), according to Yoes. A sample was sent to the Louisiana State Police Crime Laboratory.

The laboratory determined the remains were consistent with that of Edmund, according to Yoes. A short time later, the Louisiana State Police Crime Laboratory confirmed through DNA testing that the remains matched to Edmund’s surviving children.

It is believed that Edmund walked out of the residence and wandered off during Hurricane Isaac, he said. Foul play is not suspected in the incident. Edmund suffered from Alzheimer’s disease and other ailments. Yoes said detectives, deputies and other resources were utilized to locate Edmund, but were unsuccessful.
