Police seek clues in Destrehan home invasion

Release additional crime details, suspect sketch

Police have released a sketch of a suspected home invader, who along with two other men, tied up a mother and daughter before ransacking their Destrehan home.

Authorities say that on Jan. 3 at 10 a.m., a black man knocked on the back door of a residence on Murray Hill Drive. The man told the female homeowner that she needed to come outside because there was something behind her car.

Right when the woman stepped outside, she told police that the man grabbed her by the hair, pulled out a gun and forced her back inside her home. She says that the man asked her if there was anyone else in the house and told her to take him to where a safe and valuables were.

The woman and her daughter were forced into a bedroom and again asked where the valuables were located. Two other armed black men appeared and began ransacking the home, authorities say.

The woman and her daughter then had their hands duct taped behind their backs before the three men fled.

During the robbery, several items were taken including cell phones, televisions, cash, home telephones and jewelry.

“They were only in the house for a few minutes,” said Capt. Pat Yoes with the St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office.

Officials say the men are estimated to be 30-40 years old, but Yoes said they could be as old as 50.

Through the investigation, St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s detectives found a witness who saw a small, four-door faded grey car. The car was driven by a black man during the time of the incident. Another witness was also able to provide a sketch of one of the alleged perpetrators.

Sgt. Dwayne LaGrange said that police are looking for any information that could help them find those responsible.

“This was a very unfortunate incident and we don’t normally have situations like this,” he said. “This just shows that there is no such thing as a crime-free community. It can happen anywhere.”

Sheriff Greg Champagne is asking for anyone with information regarding the case or who can identify the subject in the sketch to contact Det. Erik Brass at (985)783-1135 during normal business hours. Residents may also call (985)783-6807, which is a 24-hour number.

Another option is Crime Stoppers at 1-877-903-STOP. When calling Crime Stoppers, residents do not have to give their name or testify and could receive up to a $2,500 reward.
