Police searching for woman missing near Spillway

The St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office is seeking help with locating a Mississippi woman reported missing from a U.S. Army Corps of Engineers sinking unit on the Bonnet Carre’ Spillway.

Vicksburg District spokesman Greg Raimondo said Larrielles Ross, 20, an employee in the quarters barge galley, was last seen about 2:30 p.m. Tuesday and reported missing when she was not found on the barge about 10 a.m. Wednesday.

The quarters barge is home for the unit’s workers on the river and moored near the spillway in Norco.

Sheriff’s Office spokesman Pat Yoes said they are investigating Ross’ whereabouts. The Corps of Engineers and Coast Guard are doing the river search for the woman.

Raimondo said it is unknown whether Ross walked off the barge on her own or fell off the barge.

Ross is of 76 Brown Alley in Vicksburg. She is 5’5 weighing approximately 130 pounds. She was last seen wearing a red MSU uniform shirt, white hat with Army Corps of Engineers, black pants and possibly a teal shirt under her uniform.

Yoes said the woman did not badge out via the security office, which is the only way on and off of the boat as per protocol. All of her personal belongings were found on the boat including her cell phone.

Ross’ parents were notified and have driven to the area, he said.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the Ross family and our U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Mat Sinking Unit team,” Raimondo said in a statement. “We appreciate the efforts of the St. Charles Parish Sherriff’s Office and the U.S. Coast Guard in investigating the disappearance of Ms. Ross and for assisting with search operations. We continue to hope and pray for Ms. Ross’s safety and that she will be located soon.”

Anyone with any information on the whereabouts of Ross is asked to contact Detective Jennifer James at (985) 783-1135 or (985) 783-6807.
