Woman robbed at gunpoint in driveway in front of young kids
A woman was robbed at gunpoint in front of her two young children after pulling into the driveway of her Ormond home last week, according to the St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office.
The woman, who lived on Oakley Drive, told police that she arrived at her home at 9:30 p.m. on Wednesday and was confronted by two men, one of which pulled out a small handgun. The robbers demanded money, but before the woman could give them anything they grabbed her purse and ran away.
The men were described as two, 20-year-old black males wearing hooded sweatshirts.
Sheriff Greg Champagne said that some of the items from the woman’s purse were located by deputies further down Oakley Drive, while other items were located on Dunleith Drive.
“We suspect that the perpetrators had a car parked in the area for the getaway based upon the location of the items which belonged to the victim,” Champagne said.
Sgt. Dwayne LaGrange, Sheriff’s Office spokesman, said that the victim told police that she believes she may have been followed into her subdivision, but that the robbers parked elsewhere before robbing her.
“It looks like it was a ploy to throw her off from the fact that they intended to rob her,” LaGrange said.
Since the robbery, police patrols in the area have been increased, LaGrange said. He also said authorities are asking anyone who owns video surveillance equipment in the area to notify them.
Anyone with information regarding the crime is asked to contact the Sheriff’s Office at (985) 783-6237.
