Police: Man threatens to shoot up courthouse

Picture placed at main entrances into building

Photos placed around the parish courthouse ask visitors and personnel to be on the lookout for a man who allegedly told a Kenner doctor that he planned to “take a pistol to the courthouse and shoot up the place.”

Though pictures of 51-year-old David Sims, of St. Rose, are posted at the main entrances into the courthouse, the doctor told police that Sims did not mention a specific courthouse.

The St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office was made aware of the alleged comments by the Kenner Police Department.

According to an email sent by that department, Sims was visiting a doctor at the Ochsner Medical Center of Kenner when he made the threatening comments.

The email went on to say that Sims is currently having an issue with the court system in reference to “possibly being denied disability benefits.”

“We have tight security at the courthouse to begin with, but we are aware of it and we are keeping a lookout for him,” said Capt. Pat Yoes, spokesman with the Sheriff’s Office.

The pictures posted at the entrances into the courthouse ask for residents to notify a guard if they see Sims in the area.
