A homeless couple from California was arrested after authorities say they were driving a stolen car in Norco filled with the chemicals and equipment needed to produce methamphetamine.
Joe Lamb, 32, and Robin M. Nelson, 36, were driving on Airline Highway when a deputy pulled them over for not having a license plate on their car and because Lamb was not wearing his seat belt.
Capt. Pat Yoes, public information officer with the St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office, said after being pulled over Lamb attacked the deputy and tried to flee the scene.
“While the deputy was patting down the driver for officer safety, the driver struck the deputy and ran away. The deputy and an off-duty deputy in the area apprehended the subject,” he said.
After apprehending Lamb, deputies found chemicals and equipment used for the manufacture of methamphetamines in the car.
“In plain view inside the vehicle, the deputies found an open container and chemicals,” Yoes said.
Both were arrested and the vehicle they were driving had been reported stolen from Santa Rosa, Calif., where the couple is from. Both Lamb and Nelson were also wanted by other jurisdictions at the time of their capture.
Lamb and Nelson are currently being held in the Nelson Coleman Correctional Center.
Lamb is being held under a $150,000 bond and has been charged with creating and operating a clandestine lab, battery on a police officer, resisting an officer, resisting arrest by refusing to provide identification, possession of a pharmaceutical drug, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of a stolen vehicle, open alcohol container, driver not licensed, not wearing a seat belt and as a fugitive from another law enforcement agency.
Nelson is being held under a $100,000 bond and has been charged with creating and operating a clandestine lab, possession of a stolen vehicle, resisting arrest by refusing to provide identification, possession of drug paraphernalia and as a fugitive from another law enforcement agency.
