Police: Boyfriend fired 3 shots at girlfriend’s ex

Clevon Thompson of Gonzales has been charged with two counts of aggravated assault with a firearm after he allegedly fired three gunshots at two victims in Luling, one of them the ex-boyfriend of Thompson’s current girlfriend.

Thompson, 20, of 39012 Bayou View Ave., was arrested Feb. 7 after turning himself in to the St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office. A warrant was issued for his arrest after the incident, which occurred Dec. 22 on Paul Fredrick Street.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, a man who had a prior relationship with Thompson’s girlfriend was driving down the street when he saw her outside and slowed down to speak with her. When the driver saw Thompson, he began to drive away. Thompson pulled out a handgun and fired three shots at the victim and a passenger. One of the shots struck the vehicle.

Sheriff’s Office spokesman Cpl. James Grimaldi said Thompson admitted to discarding the weapon used in the incident during an interview with detectives.

In addition to the two assault charges, Thompson was charged with aggravated criminal damage to property and obstruction of justice. He is being held at Nelson Coleman Correctional Center on a $30,000 bond.

An arraignment is scheduled for March 15.
