Police: Bayou Gauche woman drowned while fishing

A woman was found dead this morning, her body floating in a canal off of Bayou Gauche Road.

The St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office does not suspect foul play and believes the woman drowned, but they are awaiting the results of an autopsy before releasing a definitive cause of death.

The deceased, Dolores Hensley, 67, of Paradis, had a history of seizures and couldn’t swim, and apparently had gone fishing in the canal yesterday on her way back from caring for children in the area. After she did not return home last night her family began calling local hospitals to find out if she had a medical emergency and also started searching for her. It was not until this morning that Hensley’s son discovered her car parked on Bayou Gauche Road between Rivet Road and Mark Drive.

Hensley’s body was floating in the water below a wooden bridge with a fishing pole partially submerged next to her.  Her cell phone and money were still inside the car.
