OUCH! St. Rose teen faces 96 years in prison for theft of cologne & CDs, say cops

A St. Rose man could face up to 96 years in jail if convicted of simple burglary. Yes, that’s right, 96 years. That is 12 years for each of the eight counts of simple burglary he is being charged with.

Shaun P. Rutherford, 19, of 7 Bronco St. in St. Rose was arrested on Sept. 12 and charged with eight counts of simple burglary and eight counts of property damage in connection with vehicle burglaries that occurred in July within the vicinity of Lake Breeze subdivision in Kenner.

According to Kenner Police Department spokesperson, Detective Shaun Watson, witness statements led detectives to find Rutherford at an acquaintance’s apartment on 42nd Street in Kenner where a search warrant was executed.

The officers found several items that had been reported as stolen from the automobiles such as compact disc players and tools.

Police said Rutherford admitted burglarizing cars and said he used a brick to shatter windows.

As of Sept. 13, Rutherford was being held at the Jefferson Parish Correctional Center in Gretna.
