One dead, one airlifted to burn unit from today’s fiery collision in Luling

In a fiery wreck involving two trucks this morning in Luling, one man is dead and another has been taken to a burn unit in Baton Rouge.

A fuel tanker carrying gasoline went up in flames after colliding with a second truck, possibly a garbage truck or dump truck around 8 a.m. today (April 13), off La. 3127 in Luling.

The tanker driver sustained serious injuries. He was taken to St. Charles Hospital and then airlifted to a burn unit in Baton Rouge.

St. Charles Parish Sheriff Greg Champagne said two other vehicles were involved in the accident.

The southbound lanes of I-310 between La 18/Exit 7 and La 3127/Exit 10 could be closed for one day or as long as two weeks, according to the Sheriff’s Office. Commuters can cross Hale Boggs Memorial Bridge and then get off I-310 right after crossing.

Firefighters remained on the scene extinguishing the blaze throughout the morning.

State Trooper spokeswoman Melissa Matey said, “We are trying to ascertain extent of injuries now. Everything is currently under investigation.”

Anyone with information about the collision is asked to call the State Police at (504) 471-2775.
