Norco man arrested, suspect sought in rash of vehicle burglaries

17 vehicles burglarized in parish since November

In the midst of a rash of vehicle burglaries reported over the past three weeks, the St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office is asking for the public’s help in order to close in on at least one perpetrator.

Police are searching for a person photographed by a security camera and suspected of involvement in three vehicle burglaries which occurred recently in the Lakewood South Subdivision in Luling. The robberies are believed to have occurred last week, Thursday night into Friday morning.

Anyone with any information on the identity of the pictured subject is asked by the Sheriff’s Office to contact Detective Chris Baird at (985) 783-6807.

It is the third instance since late November of the Sheriff’s Office utilizing surveillance footage photos to enlist the help of the public to potentially find a car burglar. In another instance, on Nov. 29 police noted a suspect dressed in a white or light colored hooded sweatshirt with dark-colored pants and glasses was photographed and suspected of committing three car burglaries in the Country Cottage Subdivision in Montz.

And last week, St. Charles police arrested Richard Barham, 37 and of Norco, who turned himself in after a warrant had been issued for his arrest on suspicion of the burglary of several vehicles that were in the Shell-Motiva parking lot in Norco.  Barham was charged with six counts of simple burglary.

Since Nov. 28, 17 vehicles in St. Charles Parish have been reported burglarized, the reported incidents occurring in Luling, Boutte, Norco and Des Allemands.

Even non-traditional methods of transportation have been hit in two other instances— owners of a tractor in Hahnville and an ATV in Destrehan, respectively, were among those victimized by robbery.

Sheriff Greg Champagne implored residents to lock their vehicles and remove all valuables from within in a recent Facebook posting to his page.
