Fire claimed a house Wednesday (April. 4) in the 200 block of Marino Drive of Norco.

Norco Fire Chief Kenny Wenning said an estimated 25 firefighters responded to the scene around 2:13 p.m., including Norco, East St. Charles and St. Rose volunteer fire departments. They remained on the scene until 5 p.m.

The nearly 1,000 square-foot structure, which was unoccupied and had been condemned by the parish, was fully engulfed by flames shortly after firefighters arrived, Wenning said.  The owner was still receiving mail there and it had electricity.

“The house was substantially damaged,” he said. “Everything on the north side caved in.”

Other parts of the house received smoke damage.

Cause of the fire is under investigation, Wenning said. Arson is not suspected as the cause of the fire.
