Monthly recycling drop offs scheduled

St. Charles Parish residents will be able to turn in recyclable materials during monthly drop-off events through the end of 2010.

The events will kick off on Jan. 9. Thereafter, the drop-offs will take place the first Saturday of each month from 9 a.m. until noon at St. Charles Plaza on Hwy. 90 in Luling and the Allen Arterbury Building on River Road in New Sarpy. Recycling is free to the public in conjunction with the Recycling Foundation of Baton Rouge.

Because of holidays, three other drop-off dates will take place on the second Saturday. They are April 10, July 10 and Sept. 11.

Materials accepted include plastic containers (numbers 1-7), paper, cardboard, paperboard, shredded paper (in bags), newspapers, magazines, phone books and metal containers such as aluminum and steel. Glass is not accepted.

Those interested in bringing materials to the drop-off events should make sure bags, boxes and other enclosures are easy to handle. Drop-offs are typically done in drive-through fashion, with volunteers unloading recyclables directly from vehicles.
